Portrait Advice

Clothing:

Arrive in what you are comfortable in, a portrait should reflect your personality, however please be aware of the following recommendations:

Do's:

If possible co-ordinate the colours of a group, time spent in choosing the right tie etc will be well rewarded in the impact of the final image.

Keep clothing colours as plain and simple as possible.

Ladies overdo your make up slightly as the camera tends to dull it a little.

Bring a selection of clothes if you are unsure.

Think about the colour scheme of the room in which the portrait will be displayed and coordinate to that colour. Suggest to the photographer a possible background colour that you think would suit your colour scheme.

Don'ts:

Wear clothing with wording or large motifs on the front:

Wear strong patterns or contrasting colours:

Use false tanning lotions as the camera sees differently from the eye.

Wear short sleeve garments if you are overweight:

Wear dark or reactive glasses unless you want them as part of the portrait style.

Wear shiny or pearl makeup as the colours are lost and shine under studio lighting.

Tell your children to be good and smile- let us gain the confidence of the child and obtain a natural smile.

    Wear trainers!

Babies:

Bring their favourite toy or something they laugh at.

Bring spare clothing for babies if they may be sick or dribble.

Pick a time that suits your child, usually morning is best.

If when you get to the portrait time the baby is tired or sick do not be afraid to put the sitting back' we can normally accommodate any change and would rather do this than struggle with an unhappy baby.

Dogs:

Don't take the dog for a walk prior to the sitting. They often get messy hot and tired. An alert dog will present itself better to the camera (eventually).

Do bring a treat for the dog but do not offer it to the dog unless told to do so.
